Consultation has concluded

Background

The City allocated $48,000 in funds in its 2017-18 budget for improvements to the drainage basin in Dalmatia Park, Spearwood. The funding is a result of a group of residents who asked the City to improve the site.

Following remodelling of the water volumes across the entire park area, works were completed to the drainage infrastructure in July 2017 to allow removal for the fencing, whilst still retaining the basin’s principal function of receiving storm water events.

We sought your input by Friday 6 October 2017 about potential enhancements to determine the best use of the $48,000 to improve the amenity of the site. The City received feedback from 24 contributors. Feedback is summarised here.

NB: Note that Dalmatia is an unofficial name for the park.

    In November 2017, about 20 to 30 residents attended an on-site chat at the park with Parks Officers. Thank you to residents for providing final comments on the amended plan for the park upgrade which now focuses on grass, trees and a path near the stairs. In summary, the City has refined the plan to include:

    • The suggested removal of vegetation on the western side of the basin;
    • Addition of grass, limestone and trees on the western side of the basin, with species such as Jacarandas and Illawarra Flame Trees;
    • Addition of a path next to the stairs at the northern end of the basin to make it more accessible;
    • No need for a shelter;
    • Bench seating.

    The City has called for quotes to complete the work at this park in Karbuni Parade, Spearwood and hopes the contractors will start in February 2018.
