Consultation has concluded

Background

Have your say on a proposal to create fenced dog parks in Aubin Grove and South Lake.

A City-wide survey completed in October 2016 found strong support for more off-lead dog exercise areas. The City has previously considered and sought feedback on a number of locations. Based on that feedback:

  • There will be a fenced dog exercise area at Milgun Reserve, Yangebup, this year and in the future, Costa Park, Beeliar;
  • Council has decided not to proceed with dog exercise areas at Princeton Park, Aubin Grove, or Brenchley Park, Atwell;
  • A decision on a dog exercise area in Bibra Lake has been deferred, pending an environmental report into the suggested locations.

In considering locations for dog parks, Council’s guidelines are:

  • Land of 1.5ha or more;
  • Water source for water fountains;
  • Parking or capacity for parking spaces;
  • Provision for dog poo bag station and general waste bins;
  • Preferably away from sports areas and schools so there is no clash of use.

Preliminary consultation has supported additional fenced dog exercise parks at Aubin Grove and South Lake locations. The WA Government has awarded $160,000 to the City for fenced dog parks in South Lake and Aubin Grove under the ‘Local Jobs, Local Projects Fund’.

Council is now seeking final comments on these two locations:

  • Durango Park, Aubin Grove (where the City could fence the boundary of the park);
  • South Lake, unnamed reserve (under the power lines, south of Briggs Road).
