What are the lighting options?

The City is seeking community feedback on three potential lighting options for Jarvis Park.

Each design has been prepared to align with the available budget for this project.

Option A - Solar bollard lights. 15 lights, 0.95m high will be placed approximately 10m apart along the central footpath. The brightness of each light will be 300 Lumen. The closest example for these lights can be found in, Kooboolong Park in Spearwood. It should be noted that solar bollard lights, are more susceptible to vandalism.

Option B - Pole-mounted solar lights. 8 lights, 4m high will be placed approximately 40 m apart along the central footpath. The brightness of each light will be 4174 Lumen. The closest example for these lights can be found in Bishop Park in Spearwood.

Option C -  Keep as is (no new lighting).

When would lights turn on and off?

The lights have built-in energy saving sensors and would operate between dusk and dawn. The lights are activated by movement, operating at 10% output, adjusting to 100% output when the sensor is activated and returning to 10% output when no movement is detected.

When would the lighting be installed?

Pending community feedback, works are expected to commence in late 2022 and take around one week to complete.

    How will feedback be used?

Your feedback will be considered alongside the feedback we receive from other respondents.

Key findings will be considered against project constraints, such as budget, to guide decision-making.

How is this project being funded?

Each year the City invites Cockburn resident associations to submit up to three project ideas, worth a combined $30,000, for consideration in next year’s budget. Ideas must comply with certain criteria and receive Council approval.

At its Special Council Meeting in June, Council approved budget for Coolbellup Community Association’s request for solar lighting in Jarvis Park.
