Background

Balboa Park is a much-loved green space in Aubin Grove, offering a large open grassy area and two main stair access points on the eastern and western sides of the park.

Over time, both sets of stairs have been affected by ongoing vandalism, including the removal of step capping and wall tiles. In response, the City replaced the eastern stairs near Babylon Lane with more durable concrete stairs last year. Since this upgrade, vandalism at the eastern stairs has stopped.

The City is now planning to replace the western stairs and would like to hear from the community about the preferred design option:

  • Option one: Replace the western stairs with a narrow set of concrete stairs and a raised picnic shelter.
  • Option two: Replace the western stairs with wide concrete stairs.

We want to make sure Balboa Park continues to meet the needs of the community. Your feedback will help guide the City’s decision on how the western stairs are upgraded.
