Background

Before things heat up – have your say!

Every property in Cockburn has a part to play in keeping our community safe from fire. The Fire Control Order (which will now be known as the Fire Hazard Reduction Notice) sets out what each property owner or occupier must do to prepare for the bushfire season — whether your block is smaller than 4,047m² or you’ve got a bit more room to roam.

For smaller properties, that means keeping grasses low and clearing away flammable materials. Larger properties need to install and maintain 3-metre-wide firebreaks, prune overhanging branches to 4 metres high, and keep vegetation in check. Think of it as regular fire-safe grooming — a bit of trimming and tidying that keeps your property in top shape all season long.

We’ve drafted an updated Fire Hazard Reduction Notice and want to know what you think before it’s locked in. Does it make sense? Is it practical? Your feedback will help make sure our approach to fire safety is both effective and achievable — because when it comes to protecting our homes and bushland, we’re all in this together.

Read the draft and share your thoughts before it sparks into action!
