1. What are the changes?

The part of Munster, north of Frobisher Avenue, will become a new suburb called Lake Coogee.

The part of Munster, south of Frobisher Avenue, west of Rockingham Road and west of the Lake Coogee lake, will become part of Henderson.

2. What will happen to the part of Munster east of Rockingham Road / Stock Road?

This will remain as Muster.

3. When will the changes occur?

30 March 2020

4. Why are these changes taking place?

These changes are the result of a community-led initiative that started in 2013. The City of Cockburn supported a community proposal to rename a part of Munster to South Coogee. The name was unsuccessful in receiving State approval as it replicates the name of an existing New South Wales suburb.

An alternative name, Lake Coogee, was proposed by a local community group and received wider community support. Following consultation with the Munster community, the name was endorsed by Elected Members and received Landgate approval in September 2019.

5. Who has been told of the changes?

Landgate has advised Australia Post, WA Police, St John Ambulance, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, WA Electoral Commission and the Water Corporation.

Due to privacy reasons, Landgate and the City of Cockburn are unable to change your personal details with banks, insurance companies and so on, so you will need to do that.

6. Will my property ownership change?

No, your property is described as a lot on survey or strata plan on the Certificate of Title. This does not change what you legally own. The suburb name referenced on your Certificate of Title will change automatically.

However, if you receive service notices in the post about this property, you will need to update your postal address to ensure you continue to receive them. You can amend your postal address by lodging a Change of Address form with Landgate. The form is available online at https://www0.landgate.wa.gov.au/titles-and-surveys/forms-and-fees/land-titling-forms.

Please contact Landgate’s Customer Services for additional support regarding your Titles via landgate.wa.gov.au/contact-us.

7. I have a small business, where can I get advice about communicating the change to my customers?

The Small Business Development Corporation is the WA Government agency dedicated to supporting small business throughout the State. The Corporation can assist with free advice in relation to operating your business and engaging with customers.

8. Will my address change?

Your suburb name will change, however your house number and street name will remain the same. The City of Cockburn will replace existing signs where necessary over a period of time.

9. Will my mail be affected?

Australia Post is aware of the changes and has advised that from 30 March 2020 mail will be delivered to either address for four months. After this period, you may consider undertaking a formal mail redirection.

10. How will existing GPS and maps be updated?

GPS and online maps may take some time to change depending on the manufacturer and their updates.

11. I keep getting told my new address isn’t valid?

Many large organisations use address verification services to ensure the address you use is authorised. Please be patient as it may take several weeks after the changeover for the new suburb and amended address to become known. We recommend you refer them to Landgate’s Address Verification Services on the Landgate web page for verification.
