Background

The City of Cockburn’s vision for reconciliation is to create an inclusive community with strong relationships across cultures. This vision is based on mutual respect and understanding. Our actions will contribute to the goal of closing the gap between First Nations people and other Australians. This is so that all people can be valued and participate fully in the Cockburn community.

About the RAP

The City of Cockburn is proud of the culture, history, and First Nations people of Beeliar Boodjar and is committed to reconciliation, increasing equity, and listening to First Nations voices.

Reconciliation Australia provides a framework for Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs), based on the core pillars of relationships, respect and opportunities. RAPs help create real opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by supporting economic equality and supporting First Nations communities to take the lead in shaping their own futures.

We have spoken to our Aboriginal Reference Group and staff leaders on what work needs to progress to develop our new Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2026-29.

We are now seeking your input on what you would like to see in some of the key actions.
