Consultation has concluded

Background

In early 2020, we asked for your feedback on a proposal to improve the pump track at Spearwood Skate Park. The City, in conjunction with input from local off-road and BMX bike riders, developed a draft concept design for these improvements.

What You Said

A total of 67 submissions were received during the comment period, including 33 completed surveys at 34 quick poll responses. Here is a snapshot of what you said:

  • Almost all survey respondents agree the pump track should be upgraded (31), the remaining two (2) neither agree or disagree
  • Almost all survey respondents would visit more often if the upgrades were to be undertaken (28), (4) would visit the same amount and (1) would visit less.
  • Almost all survey respondents are happy or very happy about the proposed improvements (32).
  • Almost all quick poll respondents believe the design is good or very good (29).

Comments:

  • "Could you please install security cameras and lights at the park to increase security"
  • "Please make sure these upgrades (and the construction process) respect the wetlands and natural environment"
  • "Would be good to have a perimeter footpath to make it accessible"
  • "Toilet and BBQ if possible"

What Will Happen Next

Thanks to your feedback, the Spearwood pump track upgrades are now confirmed. Delivery of the project is expected to get underway in 2020.

Key features of proposed track:

  • One-way with starting point
  • Designed to fit within existing track foot-print
  • Conventional pump track including berm and rollers
  • 3 x Intermediate skill level jumps
  • B-Line on jumps for less experienced riders / for practicing
  • Shaded spectator zone (existing trees)
  • Made of durable materials
  • Limestone to retain high track edges and create informal hang out locations

In light of your feedback, we'll be working to incorporate path access to the track and a bin enclosure as part of the project. These may be incorporated a little later on, as funding becomes available.

We've also noted the request for restroom, BBQ and shelters, which we'll put forward for consideration in future budget requests.

The City's CCTV cameras are deployed to locations based on data and incidents of anti-social behaviour. Current statistics for this site do not support the installation of a camera, however there are other safety and security services available in the City of Cockburn (click here to find out more).
