Project update: August 2024

7 August 2024

Thank you for your feedback

Over 730 residents told us their levels of support for dogs being off-lead or on-lead at specific parks when there are no sports occurring.

Thank you to everyone who participated.

What we heard

Feedback was mixed throughout the parks with some respondents in favour of dogs being off-lead, others preferring dogs to be on-lead, and some remaining neutral.

Of those participants who preferred off-lead parks, it was noted that respondents:

  • Believed these areas benefited dogs' wellbeing
  • Mentioned a lack of or need for more off-leash areas within the City
  • Supported the off-leash use of these area when sporting activities were not occurring.

Participants who preferred dogs to be on-lead at parks noted:

  • Concerns for safety of people and children
  • Concerns for safety of dogs
  • Concern for rule breaking of current off-lead status

A community feedback summary, illustrating feedback received per park, is available in the Document Library
