Project update: October 2024

1 October 2024

The City of Cockburn recently gained State funding for road safety treatments through Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) under the Low Cost Urban Road Safety Program.

To inform the programs design and better understand community views about road safety treatments, the City undertook consultation in June of 2024.

A community feedback summary is available in the Document Library on the Comment on Cockburn project page.

Community feedback highlighted a desire for two additional sites to be considered in addition to the proposed treatment areas. Multiple requests were received for a pedestrian crossing for Annois Road, and many respondents had concerns around speeding along Bibra Drive and pedestrian access to the skate park. As a result of this feedback, Main Roads will consider these additional treatment areas within the current program.

On the 10 September 2024 in their Ordinary Council Meeting (OCM), Council endorsed the program, allowing the City to proceed with works for the Urban Road Safety Program. In line with community feedback, this will include raised safety platforms at the Bibra Drive and Parkway Road roundabouts, an additional pedestrian crossing on Annois Road and the installation of a LED speed sign on Bibra Drive near the Walliabup Skate Park.
