Big things are rolling your way for walking and cycling in Cockburn!

30 April 2026

Behind the scenes, the City has been hard at work with our transport experts at WSP, shaping an updated Bicycle and Walking Network Plan that will help guide how we move around Cockburn in the years ahead.

Back in March and April 2025, our community shared fantastic ideas, local knowledge and aspirations through wide-ranging engagement.

To make sure we got it right, WSP then brought key stakeholders to the table, including City of Cockburn staff, Main Roads WA, Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure, WestCycle, RAC WA, Public Transport Authority, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, Development WA, and neighbouring local governments at a Traffic and Transport Bicycle and Network Plan Workshop in December 2025.

This workshop helped confirm and strengthen what you told us, turning community feedback into clear directions for action.

In April 2026, Council was presented the draft Bicycle and Walking Network Plan for review and refinement. The Plan is currently being reviewed by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure and is expected to be presented to Council at the June 2026 Ordinary Council Meeting (OCM) for final adoption.

Thanks to the strong response and thoughtful input received early on, the City has been able to draft a robust Bicycle and Walking Network Plan. The Action Plan will deliver a coordinated cycling program through staged City‑led major routes, advocacy for externally delivered priority connections, ongoing safety upgrades at problem crossings, neighbourhood‑level network improvements, and a city-wide Safe Around Schools program prioritising assessments and targeted infrastructure upgrades. The extensive feedback gathered has provided a solid foundation for the Plan.

With fuel prices top of mind and more people choosing to walk or ride, we know our community is eager to see what’s ahead. The City remains committed to supporting active transport and creating safer, healthier, and more connected neighbourhoods for everyone.

Next steps

We can share the Bicycle and Walking Network Plan with you as it approaches the June 2026 OCM.
