Project update: June 2026

4 June 2026

In March and April 2025, our community shared fantastic ideas, local knowledge and aspirations through wide-ranging engagement. You shared likes, issues and ideas of the cycle and walking condition and connectivity within Cockburn.

The City has since been working with a consultant, WSP, to shape an updated Bicycle and Walking Network Plan that will help to facilitate safe, efficient, connected and sustainable movement around the City.

In April 2026, Council was presented the draft Bicycle and Walking Network Plan 2026-2036 for review. The Plan was then reviewed by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure.

With the strong early engagement and valuable feedback received, the City has been able to develop a comprehensive Bicycle and Walking Network Plan that responds to the feedback provided. The Plan outlines a coordinated approach to active transport, including staged delivery of key City-led routes, advocacy for high-priority external connections, ongoing safety improvements at critical crossings, neighbourhood-level network enhancements, and a city-wide Safe Around Schools program focused on assessments and targeted infrastructure upgrades.

The Bicycle and Walking Network Plan 2026-2036 will be presented to Council at the June 2026 Ordinary Council Meeting (OCM) for final adoption.

You can view the actions within the Plan in the June OCM Agenda and we will post a link to the Plan on this page once it is available on the City’s website.
