Council adopted the budget

Council has approved a $43.9 million capital works budget to invest in services, assets, and infrastructure for the Cockburn community throughout the 2023-24 financial year. Key projects include:

  • Enhancing community and sport facilities through $1.2 million upgrade at Beale Park.
  • Expanding the C.Y. O'Connor Beach fringing reef trial to protect our coastline with a budget of $0.9 million.
  • Strengthening our capacity for sustainable waste management by constructing a community drop-off facility, education centre, re-use shop, and weighbridge at the Cockburn Resource Recovery Precinct, with funding of $1.5 million.

As a sensible response to the current economic climate characterised by high inflation and building costs, the City is prioritising the maintenance of existing assets and infrastructure over new projects. This will see 70 percent of the capital budget invested in maintaining and upgrading existing assets, compared to 30 percent allocated to delivering new assets.

To ensure responsible financial management, the City is also deferring non-critical spending and implementing a phased approach for projects, spanning multiple years.
