Background
The City of Cockburn Bush Fire Brigades Local Law prescribes how a local government establishes, manages, and regulates its volunteer Bush Fire Brigades. This includes the process for forming and naming the brigade and defining its area, dissolving or merging brigades, defining the structure, roles, and responsibilities of officers within the brigades, and regulating operations and governance including meetings, decision making processes, and reporting requirements.
The City had previously developed and gazetted the Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2025. The Joint Standing Committee on Delegated Legislation (JSCDL) has requested a minor adjustment and as such, the City has created an amendment local law. The purpose of the proposed Amendment Local Law is to amend the Bush Fire Brigades Local Law by replacing subclauses (1) and (2) of clause 3.5. The effect of the proposed Amendment Local Law is that the principal Bush Fire Brigades Local Law is amended.
We are providing our community an opportunity to have their say before the amendment is finalised. Together, we can ensure that our local laws are fair, effective, and responsive to the people they serve.
