Consultation has concluded

We Asked:

We sought your comment about prohibiting dogs on the beach near the surf club, on the access point near the Coogee Beach Café, and along Woodman Point, and allowing dogs on the beach between Caledonia Loop and the Breakwater near the old power station.

You Said:

A high number of community groups and individuals asked Council to provide a dog-free area near the surf club. A strong number of people asked Council to allow dogs to continue to be allowed along Woodman Point. See the consultation reports.

We Did:

The City has assessed the community feedback and made changes to dog access on the beaches along the Coogee to Woodman Point coastline. See the final map.

As a result of the Council decision on Thursday 8 December 2016:

  • Dogs are allowed on leads on the beach around Woodman Point;
  • Dogs are still not allowed on the beach from Caledonia Loop to the old power station;
  • Dogs are not allowed at all on the beach from the Coogee Beach Surf Life Saving Club to the Woodman Point ammo jetty, a distance of about 800 metres;
  • Dogs are not allowed at all on the southern entrance to the Coogee Beach Café;
  • Dogs are not allowed at all on Ngarkal Beach except on the footpaths where dogs are permitted on leads.

To help dog owners and other beach-goers, the City will erect signs along the coastline from the northern boundary with the City of Fremantle, to the beach just east of the Jervoise Bay Cove car park.
