The City of Cockburn has received a planning application for a surf park at the vacant site located at 800L-801L Prinsep Road, Jandakot. The application proposes the following land uses: 

  • Private Recreation (Surf Park)
  • Hotel
  • Shop
  • Restaurant
  • Small Bar
  • Health Studio (Recovery, Fitness and Wellness Centre)
  • Office (Casual Working Space)
  • Child Care Centre.

The surf park includes the following features:

  • Surfing lagoon (2-hectare divided into two separate halves)

About this application

The City of Cockburn has received a planning application for a surf park at the vacant site located at 800L-801L Prinsep Road, Jandakot. The application proposes the following land uses: 

  • Private Recreation (Surf Park)
  • Hotel
  • Shop
  • Restaurant
  • Small Bar
  • Health Studio (Recovery, Fitness and Wellness Centre)
  • Office (Casual Working Space)
  • Child Care Centre.

The surf park includes the following features:

  • Surfing lagoon (2-hectare divided into two separate halves)
  • Hotel (54 rooms and guest amenities over 9 storeys, plus basement)
  • Rooftop glamping units (20 units)
  • Food and beverage spaces, including functions and events areas (roughly 1,000m2)
  • Events lawn with dedicated bar and deck area (roughly 3,575m2)
  • Recovery, fitness and wellness centre
  • Surfing academy with associated rental centre and guest services;
  • Surf and retail tenancy (300m2)
  • Casual working space (roughly 350m2)
  • Child minding and entertaining spaces
  • Back-of-house areas
  • Vehicle parking, short-term passenger drop-off bays and bus lay-down bays

About the assessment process 

According to WA planning regulations, the City must advertise this proposal for 14 days. During the advertising period, community members may comment on the proposal. Comments should relate to planning matters like infrastructure, design, sustainability and environment. At the end of the advertising period, the City will review public submissions alongside the planning guidelines and regulations. 

The City’s Statutory Planning Department will prepare a report, including public submissions and a recommendation. This report is provided to a Development Assessment Panel who will make the final determination
