Background

The City of Cockburn has received a development (planning) application from Main Roads WA for the demolition of an outbuilding and stables associated with the Cockburn Roads Board building at 1 Forrest Road, Hamilton Hill.

The site is a Category C heritage building on the City's municipal inventory of heritage sites. It is not on the state heritage list.

Generally, the demolition of buildings does not require planning approval. However, the City's approval is required for the demolition of heritage buildings.

About this application

The property includes four (4) structures; the main building constructed circa 1922 which formerly housed the Fremantle Road Board, the Cockburn Road Board and the Cockburn Council, as well as three (3) outbuildings.

Main Roads WA are proposing to demolish buildings structures 3 and 4 (as per the demolition plan found in the document library) which consists of stables and an outbuilding.

About the assessment process

The application will be determined by Council at a Council Meeting.

City planning officers will make a recommendation to Council following the community advertising process.
