Project update: September 2022

Thank you for your feedback

In February 2022 a draft traffic calming design was developed. Nearby residents were invited to share feedback on the draft.

Key outcomes

The City received feedback from 41 people. Approximately two thirds of respondents live on Blackwood Avenue and Ely Street, and one third live in the surrounding area.

Feedback has been considered alongside the budget and site constraints. As a result the following design modifications have been made:

  • Type of speed hump: Main Roads WA (MRWA) flat top plateau humps will be used to reduce impacts on cyclists, instead of standard Watts profile humps.
  • Separation line-marking: A separation line will be installed along the length of Blackwood Avenue. This is subject to Main Roads WA approval.
  • Kerbs: Kerbs will be installed at each device to prevent vehicles from navigating into the road reserve.

Next steps

Works to install the speed humps are expected to be completed by mid-2023. Further notification will be provided to residents abutting the work area closer to the time.
