Background

The City of Cockburn received a nomination to add a significant fig tree, located in Hamilton Hill, onto the City's Heritage Inventory. The tree is located to the west of Dixon Park, north of Rockingham Road and west of Starling Street, Hamilton Hill (view map).

As part of the process, we sought community feedback on whether the fig tree holds social or historical value to the community of Hamilton Hill.

    At its meeting on 12 November 2020, Council considered a report item on the proposal to include a fig tree in Hamilton Hill on the Local Government Inventory. View the Council Meeting Minutes (page 136) to read a summary of the feedback received. Council made a resolution to include the fig tree on the Inventory. The Inventory and Heritage List can be found listed under Heritage.

    What happens now?

    City officers have prepared a report which Council will consider at its meeting on 12 November 2020. This discusses the proposal, and the submissions made by our community and relevant government agencies.
