Background

The City of Cockburn is planning important upgrades to Hammond Road, from Russell Road to Rowley Road, to improve traffic flow, safety, and access in and around Hammond Park and Wattleup.

Key features of the upgrade include widening Hammond Road to a dual carriageway (north and south), incorporating shared use paths for walking and cycling on both sides, including a kerbed central median for safer pedestrian crossings, and improving traffic management and access to Hammond Park and Wattleup.

We are engaging with the community early in the project, to help shape its direction before work begins, with community input helping to inform the final designs prior to construction.

While the project will be delivered in stages, and each phase will depend on approvals, we won’t be consulting at every individual step — but we will keep you informed along the way. This is a long-term road infrastructure project, subject to funding and completion of arterial roads by Main Roads WA.

Stages

  • Stage 1 – Russell Road to Frankland Avenue
  • Stage 2 – Frankland Avenue to Wattleup Road
  • Stage 3 – Wattleup Road to Rowley Road (subject to Main Roads WA extension of Rowley Road).

Please view the stages map, site plan, and draft designs available in the Document Library.
