Having Your Say

At the City of Cockburn, our focus is to inform you, consult with you and provide opportunities for your active participation in Council projects and activities - depending on the project.

We rely on many ways to interact with you and seek your views - workshops, mailouts, newspaper advertisements, Facebook, the City's website and this online community hub, Comment on Cockburn.

Comment on Cockburn is designed to reach you at your convenience -- in your home or workplace -- so that you can have your say on projects important to you, at a time convenient for you to login.

If Council wants to implement a change that impacts on the community, a Community Engagement Plan is prepared, outlining the potential stakeholders and how we can reach you.

We will try to let you know what's negotiable in the project and what's not. For instance, there may be a set budget for a project, but how we spend it may be flexible and depend on your input. The decision to consult the community depends on the size and nature of the changes being proposed and the potential impacts on the community.

What happens to your input?

When a consultation period closes, our Community Engagement Officer collates all the results and writes a Consultation Summary. This is uploaded on Comment on Cockburn once the report is presented to Elected Members at a Council meeting. Your input into surveys becomes public. Your names are not published. Your input helps shape the decision on the matter.

How can I keep updated?

Once you register with Comment on Cockburn, the City will send you an email newsletter once a month to:

  • Update you on various projects
  • Let you know how your feedback has been used
  • Provide an opportunity to complete new surveys

How do we prioritise our expenditure?

The document library (right) contains our key planning documents which determines the focus for the City and community over the next 10 years. These documents take into account the community’s aspirations and deliver the best results possible with the available resources.

The Strategic Community Plan expresses the community’s vision and priorities for the future and shows how the Council and community intend to make progress over a 10-year period. Detailed implementation for the next four years is covered in the Corporate Business Plan.

The annual budget relates to the respective year of the Corporate Business Plan, with any necessary adjustments made through the annual budget process.
