The City recently asked local residents for their views on the suitability of two possible locations for a basketball pad and hoop around the Eliza Ponds Estate area.

We received feedback from nearly 60 respondents. Thank you to everyone who participated.

What you said

• Respondents mostly support installing a basketball pad in the area, noting it would benefit residents, especially families with children.
• General concerns include:
  • Potential noise disturbance if installed near houses
  • Impact on parking
• Comments relating to Rotary Park as a potential site include:
  • Opportunities -
    • More existing open space to consider in the design process
    • Further distance between the pad and residents' homes
    • Existing off-street parking availability.
  • Challenges -
    • Possible proximity to residents' houses
    • Concerns about potential increased traffic to the area
    • Less accessible by walking for a large proportion of Eliza Ponds Estate residents.
• Comments relating to Santorini Park as a potential site include:
  • Opportunities -
    • Potential to serve a larger catchment area within walking distance
    • Provision of desired recreational infrastructure to the newly developed area
    • Closer to local amenities in an already busy area.
  • Challenges:
    • Proximity to houses with limited placement options
    • Grassed area prone to flooding
    • The open green space is valued for other recreational uses.
