Project update – March 2024

CLOSED: This discussion has concluded.

Basketball Pad Coming to Rotary Park

Considering community feedback, budget and environmental considerations, the City will install an 8m x 8m basketball pad and hoop, with a sound-mitigating backboard at Rotary Park (20 King Street, Coogee).

Design considerations

  • Environmental – The city consulted its Sustainability and Environmental Team to minimise any disruption to Rainbow Bee Eaters and factored this into the design and installation process.
  • Location – Considering logistical, environmental, and planning considerations, the City has chosen the flat area of Rotary Park, east of the existing playground (adjacent to Soric Rise) and west of the carpark on Kings Street.
  • Materials– Considering community comments, the City will install a noise-mitigating backboard.
  • Traffic – The City selected the location considering its proximity to an existing car park with access to a main road (King Street). Basketball pads predominantly serve as a catchment within walking distance.

Consultation has concluded. Thank you to everyone who had their say.

The City is starting the procurement processes and aims to install the basketball pad in the second quarter of 2024. Construction is expected to take up to three weeks.

Some parts of the car park may be impacted during installation, while the remainder of Rotary Park will remain unaffected.
