A draft design for the Hope Road shared path upgrades has been developed. We would love to hear your feedback before we undertake detailed design.

Background

The City of Cockburn has received $290,000 in funding assistance from Department of Transport to upgrade the path on Hope Road, between Bibra Drive and Pausin Crescent in Bibra Lake. This path is an essential link for people who walk and ride bikes, connecting to the Kwinana Freeway and Bibra Lake shared paths.

The upgrades aim to help people aged 8 – 80 going to work, school or Murdoch University. A safer path will help to encourage less confident riders and families to start riding for transport. The upgraded path will be built off road to reduce interaction with vehicles and to encourage more people to commute on their bike instead of car.

A draft design for the upgraded path has been developed. The proposed design overcomes several engineering challenges on Hope Road, such as the change in ground levels, driveways and underground services.

Please note this is a City of Cockburn project and is not part of the Main Roads WA Murdoch Drive Connection Project. Read our FAQs to find out more.

Have Your Say

Please view the draft design and share your feedback.

Community input will be considered as we review the draft design and develop a more detailed design. The final design requires Department of Transport and Main Roads WA approval.

    Completion of final design

In late 2020, we sought community feedback on a draft design for upgrades to Hope Road, between Bibra Drive and Pausin Crescent. Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback.

Since closure of the public comment period, the City has reviewed the draft design. This process is now complete and a copy of the final design can be found in the Document Library.

    What design changes were made?

The following changes were made as a result of community feedback:

    • Realignment and narrowing of the path to:
      • Navigate around mature trees (no mature trees will be removed);
      • Minimise impacts on the playground; and
      • Reduce the size requirements of the retaining wall to preserve a mature tree.

Additionally, the following changes were made upon advice and consultation with the Police Children's Crossing Unit and school:

    • Repositioning of the childrens crossing, and
    • Installation of signage.

    What will happen next?

The final design will be presented to Department of Transport and Main Roads WA for approval. If approved, a contractor will be engaged to build the path and carry out any other associated works.

    When will works take place?

Works are expected to commence in mid-2021 and will take approximately one month to complete, weather and site conditions permitting. Working hours are 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. From time to time, some out of hours works may be required. In these cases, the contractor will notify impacted properties.

    What work activities are involved?

A variety of works are involved in the construction process. Activities may include, but are not limited to:

    • Installing fencing around the work area
    • Moving and compacting earth
    • Pouring concrete
    • Installing footings and retaining wall bricks

To carry out these works, some temporary path or lane closures may be required. Signage will be in place to guide commuters.

Where can I find out more?

Please contact City of Cockburn on 9411 3444 or email [email protected].

    Thank you for your feedback

In October 2020 we asked for your feedback on the draft design for the Hope Road shared path upgrades.

The proposed upgrades are aimed at people aged 8 – 80 going to work, school or Murdoch University. It is envisaged the upgrades will help to encourage less confident riders and families to start riding for transport.

Over 300 people visited the project page, and we received a total of 28 submissions. Thank you for having your say on the draft design. A summary of the feedback is available in the Document Library.

The City is now reviewing the draft design in consultation with the Department of Transport in order to prepare a detailed design.
