Background

The City of Cockburn is seeking your feedback on our proposed Keeping of Animals Local Law 2026, which contains rules around the keeping of dogs, cats, and other animals, to help protect the health and amenity of the community.

It provides limits on how many cats, dogs, poultry, pigeons and bees/bee hives may be kept without approval, as well as providing rules around the keeping of these animals and livestock as pets. It further requires all catteries and dog kennels to be licensed and specifies certain parks and reserves where cats are not permitted to be at any time.

We want to hear your thoughts, to help us prepare a keeping of animals local law that reflects the values and needs of our community.

Together, we can ensure that our animal local law is fair and strikes the right balance in protecting public health, safety and amenity of the community.
