Background
The City of Cockburn has listened to your feedback on the Fencing Local Law 2012 and is now seeking your feedback on our proposed Fencing Local Law 2026.
The local law contains rules to help make sure fences are safe and don’t cause hazards for the community. These rules include requiring approval for barbed wire, razor wire or electric fences, as well as for certain dangerous fencing materials.
The fencing local law also specifies what is a ‘sufficient fence’ for the district. This is relevant if you want to erect or repair a dividing fence. You can only recover costs for a ‘sufficient fence’, you will have to foot the bill for any difference between that and any higher quality fence.
View the fact sheet and the full proposed local law to understand what is being proposed.
We want to hear your thoughts, to help us prepare a fencing law that reflects the values and needs of our community.
Together, we can ensure that our fencing local law is fair and strikes the right balance in protecting the safety and amenity of the community.
