Project Update - January 2023

CLOSED: This discussion has concluded.

The Comment on Cockburn website received 449 visits during the feedback period, and the City received responses from 61 people (nearly all of whom live in North Coogee). Thank you to everyone who had their say.

What our community said

Respondents were asked their preferred location and equipment type. Respondents said they prefer:

  • Strength-based equipment, including:
    • Butterfly press,
    • Back extension,
    • Chin-up bars.
  • Equipment to be installed in one or several of the following locations:
    • Coromandel Park,
    • Socrates Parade (Omeo Park) and Chelydra Point (Chelydra Park) waterfronts, and
    • Near Othello Quays bridge (Caledonia and Medina Parks).

There was roughly equal support for the equipment to be installed as a circuit (one item at three locations) and in-one spot (three items in one location). See the full community feedback summary in the Document Library.

Next steps

Consultation has concluded. Thank you to everyone who shared their views about fitness equipment in Port Coogee.

Officers have considered participants' feedback alongside the project budget and site constraints. The budget must cover all aspects of the project, from site preparation to installation.

In line with community feedback, the City will create a fitness circuit including:

  • Butterfly press at Coromandel Park
  • Back extension at Chelydra Park
  • Chin-up bar at Caledonia Park

The City expects to complete installation by mid-2023.
