How much waste do we produce worldwide?

    Around the world, up to half of all plastic produced globally is for single use items and only 10% of plastic waste is recycled. In landfill, plastics can take up to 1,000 years to break down. Around 8 million tonnes of plastic enters our oceans every year. At current rates, it is estimated that by 2050:

    • There will be about 12 billion tons of plastic litter in landfills and the natural environment;
    • An estimated 99% of seabirds will have ingested plastic;
    • There will be more plastic than fish in our oceans.
