Project Update: December 2020

Thanks for your feedback on Macrozamia Park in Yangebup

The City of Cockburn has $20,000 to enhance Macrozamia Park in a way that integrates with and celebrates the site’s natural assets. The site is a small bushland reserve and therefore does not have a water or power connection.

In late 2020 we asked for your feedback on some potential nature based additions that could enhance the site. Thank you for your input.

What our community told us

Ensuring the site’s vegetation and natural feel are preserved and appreciated was a key aim of this project.

There is strong support amongst local residents for the site to be enhanced through the addition of some small nature play elements. What our community values about Macrozamia Park:

  • Native vegetation
  • Natural feel
  • Proximity to homes

Key community priorities for Macrozamia Park include:

  • A nature play space in an existing cleared area, close to the path.
  • Preferred nature play elements are a log cubby, log steppers, limestone stepping stones, and climbing/balance logs.
  • A safe and maintained area.

More information on this feedback is available in our community feedback summary.

Next steps

A design has been developed based on the findings and can be viewed here. The project budget supports the inclusion of the three most preferred nature play elements including log steppers, balancing logs and a small log cubby. The additions are expected to be installed in the first half of 2021. For more information on this project please contact the City of Cockburn on 08 9411 3444 or [email protected].
