Western Suburbs Sporting Precinct Study

The City of Cockburn's population will rise from about 111,000 to 147,000 over the next decade, with most of the growth expected in the western suburbs.

Why do we need this study?

In 2016/17, the City embarked on a comprehensive planning process to development a Community, Sport and Recreation Facilities Plan to guide the provision of facilities across the City. It found there were limited opportunities for new facilities and reserves in the growth suburbs of Coogee and North Coogee and that existing facilities in surrounding suburbs needed significant upgrades. As such, the draft plan recommended a separate study to provide a coordinated approach to the future facility and reserve provision in the western suburbs.

This study is now underway, focussing on:

  • Davilak Reserve
  • Edwardes Reserve
  • Wally Hagan Recreation Centre
  • Dixon Reserve
  • Dalmatinac Park and Lucius Park
  • Beale Park Reserve
  • Cockburn Coast Oval and Clubrooms
  • Santich Park

Aim of the study

The project will:

  • Determine the current and future community sporting needs of the current and potential user groups at reserves and facilities within the western ward suburbs

  • Define field configurations for all reserves as well as potential reserve users

  • Provide concept master plans

  • Consider the need for facilities and reserves development and expansion

  • Provide recommendations based on the principles of co-location, rationalisation and multi-functionality and long term sustainability

  • Identify opportunities to improve accessibility

  • Estimate costs for development proposals

Share your thoughts with others about why your local grounds or clubrooms should be upgraded

There should at least be a park or sports facility in Success Gardens Estate for its residents.

At the moment there isn't one and kids have to cross over busy Hammond Road to the other side of the road and walk a distance to use any of such facilities.
