Treeby, the newest suburb for the City of Cockburn

Consultation has concluded

The Minister for Lands has approved the creation of a new suburb, Treeby, north of Armadale Road, which is currently known as Banjup.

The area south of Armadale Road, Banjup will remain as it is. Banjup now covers east of Tapper Road, south to Rowley and north to Armadale Road.

The City is contacting all affected residents to advise them of this change.

Background

Banjup originally included Success, Hammond Park, Aubin Grove and Atwell within its boundaries.

The locality of Banjup has most of its new suburbs named after pioneers (Atwell, Hammond Park, Aubin Grove) of the area.

In the 1890s, Joseph and Emma Treeby settled in the area and developed a vegetable garden. Three of their sons served in World War 1, with one killed in action.

As well as the new suburb, Banjup has a conservation reserve named Emma Treeby.
