Consultation has concluded

Background

Join us for a youth workshop and talk to us about upgrading the Cockburn Wetlands Precinct! All young people welcome.

You will be given a “Wetlands Precinct Passport” to show you have completed each activity, including visiting rescued animals at Native ARC. Parents are welcome to come on the tour, stay and enjoy tea, coffee and refreshments.

The Precinct is home to The Wetlands Centre Cockburn, Native ARC and the Bibra Lake Scouts – all significant, passionate environmental and community organisations. The site on Hope Road, Bibra Lake is a major hub for environmental education, scouting, landcare, wildlife rehabilitation and community involvement. The current much-loved facilities need an upgrade. The City has been working with the three site tenants with regular meetings as part of a steering committee to understand their needs and the opportunities that the site redevelopment could provide.

The scope of the project includes:

  • Demolish and rebuild Native ARC;
  • Renovate and extend The Wetlands Centre to include a dedicated scouts room, educational artificial wetland and state of the art community nursery;
  • Relocate the Bibra Lake Scout shed;
  • Provide more parking and improved traffic and public access to and across the site;
  • Create interconnected landscaped walkways and outdoor classrooms to support multiple uses and events;
  • Ensure Ecological Sustainable Design features are included across all aspects of the project.

See the concept map here. A full project summary can be viewed here.
