Consultation has concluded

Background

The City invites community input by 6 July 2018 into the Yangebup Revitalisation Strategy to guide change and growth across the suburb into the future. Yangebup residents are invited to complete an online survey, or attend one of three visioning sessions at the Yangebup Family Centre on Dunraven Drive in Yangebup:

  • Monday 25 June 2018
  • Wednesday 27 June 2018
  • Monday 2 July 2018

The visioning sessions seek to identify how the Yangebup community would like to see the suburb evolve into the future. Discussion includes:

  • How the future of Cockburn as a City is changing, particularly in respect to urban infill and housing choice
  • Future housing needs for the area
  • How public facilities within the suburb (like streets, parks, footpaths) should evolve into the future
  • Important special features that should be protected.

This map shows the extent of the study area. Note that the study area only covers the most established parts of Yangebup and not the entire suburb.

  • Project Update - November 2021

The Minister for Transport and Planning, Rita Saffioti MLA, on 29 March 2019, formally refused to grant final approval to the upcoding proposal of the Lakes Revitalisation Strategy . As such, no increase to residential density “R-codes” will be applied to the Lakes area.

The City is therefore looking at the City’s housing needs into the future as part of a draft Local Planning Strategy, which includes an assessment of residential infill needs and opportunities. At this stage the draft Local Planning Strategy is awaiting the certification of the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) prior to advertising, and comprehensive community consultation will be undertaken once this has occurred.

  • Project Update: August 2018

Thank you for your participation - more than 180 people attended the three workshops and 127 people completed the survey. A summary of community feedback from the Yangebup Revitalisation forums and online survey is now publicly available. Themes included:

    • Preservation of the natural environment and local character
    • Some appetite for low-to-medium housing density
    • Development around the pump track to include more picnic and parks facilities
    • Street enhancements including footpath and cycling links

A draft strategy is being prepared, based on your feedback. It will go to Council early in 2019, seeking approval to publicly advertise it for your further comment.
