The City of Cockburn has received a development application for a pet cremation at Unit 1, 28 Hammond Road, Cockburn Central and invites you to comment. 

About this application

The site is located within an existing commercial strata complex comprising of offices/warehouses and light industrial uses. It is zoned for 'mixed business' under the City of Cockburn Town Planning Scheme No.3 (TPS 3). The land use, 'pet cremation', is classified as a ‘use not listed’ under TPS 3. 

The details of this proposal include:

  • Animal (pet) cremation via incineration
  • A maximum of six staff on site

About this application

It is zoned for 'mixed business' under the City of Cockburn Town Planning Scheme No.3 (TPS 3). The land use, 'pet cremation', is classified as a ‘use not listed’ under TPS 3. 

The details of this proposal include:

  • Animal (pet) cremation via incineration
  • A maximum of six staff on site
  • Operating hours:
    • Monday to Friday, between 8am and 5pm
    • Saturdays, between 8am and midday 
    • No operation on Sundays and public holidays.
  • Deliveries by registered and refrigerated vans only. No drop offs are permitted, and all unloading to occur within the premises and behind a closed roller door.
  • Pets to be picked up from registered Veterinary Clinics up to twice daily.
  • Pets to be stored in a cold room on site
  • One Adfield A50-IC(2) double chamber incineration system compliant with BS EN 746-2:1997 to be used to ensure zero smoke and no odour emissions.
  • One additional dual chamber incineration system to be used only in replacement of the Adfield A50-IC(2) double chamber incineration system if damaged.
  • One small showroom, however business is anticipated to be mostly online.

    The City advertised this application for public comment between 7 June and 5 July 2023, and received five submissions.

    Following the comment period, the City reviewed all submissions and assessed the application against the planning guidelines and regulations. The application was subsequently approved subject to certain operational and parking conditions.
