    New footpath coming soon

Following feedback from our community in 2022, the Council has approved funding to install a footpath along Sandpiper Loop (between Cormorant Way and just south of Lark Court).

Given the slope of the road and to reduce disruption to verges, streetlights, and established vegetation, we are building the footpath along the southern side of the road.

View the design drawing in the Document Library.

    Next steps

Consultation has concluded. The City expects to install the path in early September 2023, subject to site and weather conditions. The path will take several weeks to complete.

Between September and October 2022, the City invited residents to share their views on pedestrian infrastructure upgrades along a section of Sandpiper Loop in Yangebup.

    What our community said

The City received feedback from 16 people. Thank you for your input.

    Key feedback themes were:

    • Most respondents (75%) walked along this route one or more times a week in the past year
    • Most respondents (62.5%) are dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with the current pedestrian infrastructure along Sandpiper Loop for reasons such as safety, and accessibility
    • Most respondents (68.5%) believe the City should consider a footpath along Sandpiper Loop
    • Most respondents (56%) said a new footpath would positively impact them.

For more information, read the Community Feedback Summary in the Document Library.

    Next Steps

The City has reviewed the feedback received. Considering the key findings, the City will submit a budget request for a footpath at this location. This budget is subject to Council consideration and approval at a Special Council Meeting in mid-2023.

Should the project be supported by Council, the City will notify landowners about the work timeframes closer to construction.
