  • The playground should be near the BBQ and picnic setting (near Susetta Approach).
  • The materials and design should blend with the park's surroundings.
  • Equipment should cater to 3-5 year olds, including swings, slides, climbers, and log steppers.
  • A fence and shade sails are desirable.

About the draft design

The City listened to these findings and has prepared a draft design for community feedback. The design also considers the project budget and site constraints, like ground levels and drainage. Key features of the playground include:

  • Use of natural materials to match the park's surroundings.
  • Placement near the BBQ and picnic setting area (near Susetta Approach).
  • Equipment including play towers, slides, inclusive carousel and log steppers.
  • Inclusion of shade sails and a fence.

    Thank you for your feedback

Between August and September 2023, the City asked Success residents for their thoughts on the draft design for the new playground.

We heard from 24 residents. Thank you to everyone who participated.

    What our community said

The majority of participants (92%) are happy with the draft design, noting the location, use of natural materials, and variety of equipment as their favourite features. The most common response was “nothing”, when asked what changes they would make.

For more information, read the Community Feedback Summary in the Document Library.

    Next steps

We are reviewing the community’s feedback, which will help shape the final design.

The next step is to present the design to Council at the 2024 mid-year Special Council Meeting. Council will decide on a budget and if we can deliver the project in the 2024-25 program. Because of rising construction costs, we may need to adjust the design in the future to account for these higher costs.

    Thank you for your feedback

Between March and April 2023, the City asked Success residents their views on the idea of a new playground at Waterbuttons Park. We received over 60 responses and more than 20 people attended our community workshop on Saturday 1 April.

Thank you for having your say.

    What our community said

    • The vast majority (89%) of respondents believe that the City should consider installing a playground at Waterbuttons Park and a further six per cent do not mind.
    • The most popular location for the playground is near the BBQ and picnic setting area (e.g. at the northern end of the park).
    • While some see fencing as a solution to safety concerns, there are mixed views on its importance. Approximately 40% of respondents indicate that a fence is unimportant, whereas 31% consider it very or extremely important, and 29% find it slightly or moderately important.
    • The top three preferred equipment types for a playground are swings, slides, and climbers (vertical and overhead). Some comments indicated a preference towards natural materials and highlighted the importance of shade.

For more information please read the Community Feedback Summary in the Document Library.

    Next steps

The City is reviewing the community’s feedback alongside technical criteria like budget and site constraints. The next step is to prepare a draft design. When available, we will share the draft on this page and seek your feedback.

Depending on the outcomes of this process, the City will then propose a budget for Council’s consideration at the Special Council Meeting in mid-2024. If approved, the City expects to install the playground around late-2024.
