Project update: March 2026

9 March 2026

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback to inform the City’s next Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)!

Engagement for the new RAP involved two phases. Phase one focused on connecting with the Aboriginal Reference Group (ARG) and the internal RAP Steering Group (RSG) to understand the impact of actions in the City’s existing Innovate RAP and to collate ideas for the new Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2026-29. The second phase focused on the wider community, inviting feedback on the parts of the RAP that guide how we work with and support our community.

We heard from 25 people via the online survey, 33 people via the online quick poll, and four people used the online visioner tool.

Key themes from community feedback:

  • The community’s top priority for strengthening knowledge and pride in Nyungar culture and language was interpreting places and place names through a Nyungar lens, followed by sharing the meanings and stories behind local places
  • Respondents were keen to learn more about Nyungar language, truth telling, story sessions, and cooking
  • When asked which places and spaces would be best suited to learn about Nyungar language and culture, survey respondents most frequently identified the City’s Museum and Libraries (online survey), and the quick poll most common responses were playgrounds and the City’s website.

The team will use the feedback provided to inform the development of the City’s next RAP and present a report to Council at a future Ordinary Council Meeting (OCM) for consideration, before progressing the RAP to Reconciliation Australia for review.
