Your say on EV charging stations

14 January 2026

Thank you to everyone who had their say on EV charging stations within the City of Cockburn.

We had 201 people participate in the online quick poll, 104 people provided feedback via the online survey, and 10 people provided their written response via email.

Key themes from community feedback:

  • Shopping centres received the highest number of votes as the most convenient public location for EV charging stations, with parks and reserves also rating high
  • 65 per cent of online survey respondents advised they already own an electric vehicle (EV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)
  • 44 per cent say they would access a public charging station monthly
  • 87 per cent would like public charging stations within 10kms of home or work
  • 87 per cent believe public EV charging is very important or important for the future of our community
  • 81 per cent of online survey respondents believe it is very important, or important that the charging stations use renewable energy.

Participants provided useful feedback including considerations for the length of stay for charging, charging speed, safety, locations with high volumes of people, and proximity to amenities such as toilets, food, and seating.

Over 50 per cent of online survey respondents are interested in workshops on renewables, electrification, household emissions, or climate change. With this in mind, the City will be hosting an Electrify your Home with ElectrifyWA workshop, 2-4pm, Saturday 28 February at the Bibra Lake Community Centre. Visit the bookings link for more information and to register for the event.

The City will use this feedback to inform the EOI process in appointing a third-party operator to provide and manage electronic vehicle (EV) charging stations and services, ensuring costs for installation, maintenance, or operation of EV charging stations is not carried by the City.
