New Suburb and Boundary Changes: Lake Coogee, Munster and Henderson

Consultation has concluded

The City of Cockburn has been engaged in a community-led proposal to rename a section of
Munster to Lake Coogee.

The proposal was recently approved by Elected Members and Landgate’s Geographic Names
Committee, on behalf of the Minister for Lands. The changes will come into effect on 30 March 2020.

What are the changes?

  • The part of Munster west of Stock Road/Rockingham Road, east of the Lake Coogee lake,
and north of Frobisher Avenue will be renamed Lake Coogee, and
  • The part of Munster west of Stock Road/Rockingham Road, west of the Lake Coogee lake,
and south of Frobisher Avenue will become part of Henderson

The part of Munster east of Stock Road/Rockingham Road will remain as Munster.

When will the changes happen?

30 March 2020

Background

In 2013, the City of Cockburn supported a community proposal to rename a part of Munster to South Coogee. The name was unsuccessful in receiving State approval as it replicates the name of an existing New South Wales suburb.

An alternative name, Lake Coogee, was proposed by a local community group and received wider community support.

Munster residents were invited to attend a community workshop in June 2019 to share their views or complete the online survey. The City thanks the local community for their valued input.

Following consultation with the Munster community, the name was endorsed by Elected Members and received Landgate approval in September 2019.
